Celiac Disease: everything you need to know on National’s Celiac Day

  • May 27, 2022
Did you know that approximately between a 1% and 2% of the country’s population suffers from Celiac Disease? That equates to about 450.000 – 900.000 people! On May 27th we celebrate the Nacional Celiac Day, a day to reflect on what this disease implies and the needs of the people affected by it.   That’s why, on the National Celiac Day, from Catànies® Cudié, we want to give you all the necessary information about the Celiac Disease and a few recommendations.

What is the Celiac Disease?

The Celiac Disease is an autoimmune-based disease caused by gluten and other related prolamines, which are found in wheat, barley, rye and oats. This condition damages the lining of the small intestine walls, causing it to be unable to absorb the nutrients correctly.   Although the causes of this disease are still unknown, it is known how it works. The small intestine has areas, known as villus, that project to the outward at the entrance of the intestine. It is precisely these areas that are responsible for the nutrient’s absorption.   When a person with Celiac Disease eats gluten, it’s immune system reacts attacking the villus, and that’s why they are damaged and unable to absorb iron, nutrients or vitamins.

What symptoms take into account to detect the Celiac Disease

The first thing to keep in mind about the Celiac Disease is that it can appear since childhood to late adulthood. On the other hand, having celiac relatives would increase the chances of ending up suffering from it.   The classic symptoms are:
  • Weight loss
  • Loss of appetite
  • Fatigue
  • Nausea
  • Pain
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Bloating and abdominal pain
  • Loss of muscle mass
  • Stunted growth
  • Character alterations
  • Anemia
At first, we told you that the Celiac Disease affects 1% of the country’s population, but the truth is that almost 75% of patients haven’t been diagnosed. That’s because, for years, only the classical clinical symptoms have been linked to this disease.

Recommendations to avoid cross contamination

One of the main concerns for families of people with Celiac Disease is cross contamination. This concept refers to when gluten-free food, as well as the utensils used to cook it, or the surfaces on which is placed, come into contact with gluten-containing food.   Even a gluten breadcrumb could be harmful for someone with Celiac Disease, that’s why we want to give you some tips on how to avoid cross contamination.
  • Store gluten-free products in separate cabinets from gluten-containing products, and if it’s not possible, use the top shelves for the products for the celiac.
  • Carefully wash your hands with soap and water
  • Carefully clean the surfaces you are going to use with soap and water before cooking
  • Always cook the gluten-free food first
  • To cut, use a plastic board exclusively for gluten-free food
  • To heat gluten-free food in the microwave, cover it
  • Do not use the oven simultaneously for gluten-free and gluten-containing food if it’s an air oven. Always place gluten-free food in the upper tray
  • It is best to have an exclusive toaster

The Catànies® Cuidé 2021 – 2022 Christmas campaign

  • December 16, 2021
Its almost Christmas season again, and with it comes the new Catànies® Cudié Christmas campaign.   This year 2021 we have begun to go back to normalcy and, for Christmas, we are looking forward to enjoying our traditions again. One of those that makes us most excited is to produce the Christmas television spot. And that is why, for yet another year, we have teamed up with the production company Punt TV to create the new Catànies® Cudié Christmas spot that you can see on TV3 during all the holidays.   This production company, also neighbor of Vilafranca del Penedès, has accompanied us in the production of all the spots that we have created so far. Like us, they are passionate about things well done and value and respect the quality products of our homeland.   Their professionalism and commitment to the brand inspires us to continue growing and to look for new ways to get you even closer to our Catànies®.

Catànies® Cudié: great pleasure for little moments

In this year’s ad, we have decided on an elegant and sophisticated image, to present the Catànies® in a slightly younger Christmas atmosphere.   The creative idea behind this spot is to remember the importance of the family we choose, our friends, during this magical time. That is why, we have used a fun and carefree tone to present our Catànies® as a must-have whatever the occasion.   We also wanted to reinforce the importance of the high quality of our almonds, pralines and cocoa, since it is these ingredients that make our product a unique recipe.   The main goal of this campaign, which you can already enjoy on TV3, is to remind you that Catànies® Cudié is the great pleasure for little moments, and that there is no better way to say I love you than with a box of Catànies®.   So, if this Christmas you want to give the most special gift to your closest friends, choose Catànies® Cudié and you will always get it right!   And if you haven’t seen the spot yet, enjoy it here!

Find us around the city of Barcelona!

As you know, at Catànies® Cudié we are big fans of surprises, and that is why we take this opportunity to give you another piece of news that we are also very excited about!   During the Christmas season you can also see us on the streets of the city of Barcelona on the sides of some buses.   Have you already found us? Christmas   In addition, until December 19, you will also be able to see us on the clock prior to TV3’s TN Nit: Christmas

We love celebrating Christmas with you!
